Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

Sample Scholarship Endowment Fund Agreement (Established by Individual/Corporation/Foundation)

Purpose:
The Sample Scholarship Endowment Fund was created in ______ by the _________________ _________________to aid Phi Theta Kappa students from Sample community college(s) seeking ____________________(an associate degree/bachelors degree/master degree/any degree).

The Sample Scholarship Endowment Fund’s aim is to increase the amount of scholarship dollars available to students pursuing a degree. The key to our future lies in our students, and the amount of support given to these individuals can be directly tied to their success.

Organizational Structure:
The Sample Scholarship Endowment Fund was created in ______________. Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society operates as a 501 (c) 3 corporation. Contributions or gifts to Phi Theta Kappa for the Sample Scholarship Endowment Fund are tax deductible as charitable contributions.

Scholarships in specific amounts and numbers, determined by the Investment Committee, are awarded according to the eligibility guidelines set in this document. Sample Scholarship Endowment Fund does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, handicap or Vietnam-era veteran status.

Establishing the Scholarship Fund:
To initialize this scholarship fund, a minimum principal amount of $25,000 will be established with a goal of $5,000 per year over a five-year period. The establishment of the Sample Scholarship Fund will be announced through the Public Relations Department of Phi Theta Kappa through marketing materials, publications and other communication avenues.

The first scholarship will be awarded at the end of the first full year interest income reaches the scholarship level. The selection of the award recipient is chosen by the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Department (headquarters staff) according to guidelines and criteria in this document. The Phi Theta Kappa Investment Committee is responsible for overseeing the fund.

While named scholarships will be tracked separately, they will be combined with all other funds in the endowment for investment purposes. At the end of the five-year donation period, if contributions have not reached the $25,000 goal, an extended goal may be established. An alternative would be for all donations received to date transferred to the Phi Theta Kappa general scholarship fund.

While scholarships are typically awarded in the amount of $1,000 annually, this figure may increase or decrease due to fluctuations in interest rates and student needs. Although $25,000 is the minimum amount to establish a fund, contributions of any amount can be made at any time. There is no limit to how large the fund can be - a larger endowment will product a greater number of scholarships.

If you are interested in establishing a named fund, please contact the Advancement office at 601.984.3537. A Scholarship Endowment Agreement will be created and will outline the terms and conditions. The endowment will be established upon receipt of the initial payment, and the donor will receive annual reports of its status.

Guidelines for Establishing A Named Fund:

  • Make a commitment to donate a minimum of $25,000.
  • Specify the fund’s name
  • Review the Scholarship Endowment Agreement
  • Make the initial payment to start the fund
  • Make minimum payments of $5,000 annually over a five-year period.

(Larger payments may be made if desired to fulfill the pledge before the end of the five-year term.)

Contributions to the Endowment Fund:
Contributions to the general fund can be made as a one-time gift, or you may want to make a monthly or annual contribution. Whether $10 or $10,000, the funds goes directly toward the Sample Scholarship Endowment Fund, which in turn will produce interest for the scholarships. There are no administrative fees to reduce the fund’s effectiveness.
