Faculty Scholar and Honors Institute Lectures recognize friends of Phi Theta Kappa

Faculty Scholar and Honors Institute Lectures recognize friends of Phi Theta Kappa who have made distinguished contributions to the Society, especially in the area of honors programming, and who have provided significant financial support for the Faculty Scholar Conference and Honors Institute.

Serving as Lecture Sponsors are Robert Blank, June Cordier, Dr. Joan Fedor, Dr. Joyce Freeman and Dr. Janice Freeman, Leanne Jardin, Dr. John Kesler and his wife, Judy Kesler, Dr. Jo Marshall and Dr. Scott Marshall, Dr. John Modscheidler and Gayle D. Wyatt.

Robert Blank is a former Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor at the State University of New York in Farmingdale and former New England/Middle States Regional Coordinator. Professor Blank is a past chairman of the Phi Theta Kappa Board of Directors, and served for many years as Honors Institute Coordinator. Professor Blank was instrumental in the development of the role of the seminar groups.

June Cordier was charter advisor for the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at Wilbur Wright College in Chicago. She also served as the first Illinois Regional Coordinator. Ms. Cordier was closely involved in the creation of the first Honors Institute in 1968.

Dr. Joan Fedor, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Committee, is former advisor for the chapter at Highline Community College in Des Moines, Washington. She is a former Coordinator for the Washington Region (now the Greater Northwest Region). Dr. Fedor and her late husband, Robert Fedor, established the Fedor Lecture Series.

Dr. Joyce Freeman and Dr. Janice Freeman, twin sisters, were honored as Phi Theta Kappa’s Most Distinguished Alumni in 1975. The Freemans became members of Phi Theta Kappa at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. They have been members of the Society Board of Directors and have served as chapter advisors and as alumni advisors.

Leanne Jardine is New York Regional Coordinator and chapter advisor at Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, New York. Ms. Jardine was the 2002 recipient of the Board of Directors Alumni Achievement Award. She became a member of Phi Theta Kappa at Mohawk Valley Community College in New York.

Dr. John Kesler, Ohio Senior Regional Coordinator, is a Lecture Sponsor with his wife, Judy Kesler. Dr. Kesler formerly served as chapter advisor at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio. He has received the Distinguished Regional Coordinator and Regional Coordinator Emeritus Awards.

Dr. Jo Marshall is a former chapter advisor and former Alabama Regional Coordinator. Her husband, Dr. Scott Marshall, is a longtime friend of the Society. Dr. Jo Marshall has served on the Phi Theta Kappa Board of Directors. She is president of Somerset Community College in Somerset, Kentucky. Dr. Scott Marshall is professor of economics at Eastern Kentucky University.

Dr. John Modschiedler is advisor emeritus at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. During Dr. Modschiedler’s 15 years as advisor, the chapter at College of DuPage grew to be the Society’s largest. Dr. Modschiedler is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and teaches courses in religion and ethics.

Gayle D. Wyatt of Nacogdoches, Texas, is a former member of the Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters staff. He played a key role in the creation and development of the Honors Study Topic and the Honors Institute. Wyatt is a former college teacher and served as Academic Dean at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas.
